“Being a vocalist means bringing lyrics and stories to life. It's my pleasure to listen to my emotions and connect to the words, in the songs that I sing. .....Darkness, enlightenment, hilarity, resolution. This is music to me."
Russine attributes as her musical influences, The Beatles, Brasil 66, Manhattan Transfer, Steely Dan, The Carpenters, Carole King, Peggy Lee, Michael Franks, The Eagles and Elton John, just naming a few. “This combination of artists awoke my ear to harmonies and rhythm, and I grew to love singing the backgrounds" says Russine.
Russine’s love for music began in elementary school chorus in Canoga Park, CA. She continued on in choirs and Glee Clubs in Jr. High and High School. While completing a General Studies degree at College of Southern Nevada she performed for two years in the Jazz Ensemble Choir singing blues and four and five part jazz harmonies. She studied vocal jazz and performed in jazz trios and quartets at University of Nevada Las Vegas.
In 2000, Russine joined Las Vegas 50’s Doo Wop A Capella harmony group known as “The Emerald Dreams” performing in various Las Vegas hotels as well as recording some radio jingles.
Russine sang back up for Las Vegas original rock band, “One Way Street.” Also forming a duo called ”The Zellner - Rinaldi Project”, featuring acoustic guitarist Matt Rinaldi, gave her the opportunity to perform tunes from the 70's and 80’s. She entertained as a Tribute Artist as Gloria Estefan, country star, Gretchen Wilson, “The Redneck Woman”, and also covered Christine McVie tunes in “Fleetwood Nicks” a tribute to Fleetwood Mac.
Her newest musical endeavor is performing with “The Jazzmin Vocal Band”, led and conducted by Grammy nominated, Rod Henley, of The Four Freshman. “Jazzmin” is a blend of 5 voices that brings fresh interpretations of jazz and contemporary standards with a lively band. Previous appearances have been with the UNLV Jazz Bands, Las Vegas Masters singers, The Dennis Bono show at the Southpoint Casino, and The Italian American Club, as well as local corporate events.
You can hear Russine perform jazz and pop standards every Tuesday and Thursday with pianist/vocalist Phil Baker at “Salvatore’s Italian Restaurant” in The Suncoast Casino. She treasures her dear family and friends who continue to support her musical journey.
